art as resistance
Ruben Östlund talked yesterday about shame, about the energy we get from opposition, about how we live up to the expectations we are given or take, which truths others place upon us and what we see to be true about ourselves. The social aspect of art is what makes a work great, not only the work in itself but how we talk about it, present it, represent it with our own belief in its worth. Which is hard to hear for all of us who have a hard time just patting ourselves on the back let alone lifting ourselves above evryone else. "To dare to be infor others as we dare to be infor ourselves" is perhaps about being as big as your dreams or the person you are when youa re alone; without fear.
Images create behaviours. We live up to the images that we are given. The fewer images there are of how we can be the fewer possibilities there are for us to live our lives.
Images are part of the forum for ruling values.
