something I have been thinking about doing for a very long time

A large part of the creative process is about recycling ideas. That´s how I see it anyway. At times I have wondered if it is pure laziness which causes us to return to old ideas but now I see things differently. To recycle ideas brings with it an understanding and knowledge base which one can compare, as I see it, to mastering a technique or a skill. You know your stuff- whether is be material or immaterial knowledge that we possess. Everything I have learnt in the past is there for me to refer to and it helps us to get going.

I am in New Zealand to work on an exhibition in Wellington in November. The exhibition is at a craft gallery so I am committed to working in clay, that is not a negotiable area. I can however use my masters work to inform this new body of work in combination with my earlier areas of investigation in my work with clay. This last series of projected images on a paper staircase is a step in this direction. Now I need to find a way to find the same energy and enjoyment I found in making glitterfilms where glitter became a whole new source of light reflectivity.

Documenting my process has been really helpfull too and I will try to keep this going for my own sake. Through these updates I am able to keep track of my thoughts and work through ideas, and just knowing that a reflection is requirement means that I am giving myself a lot more time for it. So important to do and yet seldom seen as a priority in a field (ceramics) where making and skills are so highly prized.
